Exercise do’s and don’ts

Whether you’re new to exercise, have been exercising for a while, or somewhere in between, there are important things you should and shouldn’t do when it comes to working out. Keep reading to learn more!

Do’s:

Make it a habit – Develop a routine and stick to it!

Be realistic – Know that you’re not going to meet your exercise goals overnight.

Keep setting goals – If you’ve been exercising for a while, the best way to keep it up is to continuously set goals.

Break through plateaus – Vary your exercise types, times and intensity levels to maximize your efforts.

Switch it up – Change your routine—work out all of your muscles rather than focusing on the same ones all the time.

Know your limits – This can help you avoid accident or injury. Rest and recovery is crucial to muscle development.

Don’ts:

Push yourself – Instead, start slow and gradually build your strength.

Give up – You’re going to hit obstacles, and you’re bound to slip up at some point, but keep going!

Overdo it –Take breaks; allow your body time to rest and recover.

Slouch – Be sure to stand up straight and focus on your posture when exercising.

Overeat – This can undo all of your hard work. Maintain balance between your calorie input and expenditure.

Obsess – There is more to life than exercise! Be sure to balance your time spent working out with other aspects of life.
