How do you take care of yourself during the busy holiday season?

As part of Health Advocate’s Maintain, Don’t Gain campaign, many of our members are aiming to maintain healthy habits–like maintaining weight, eating right, exercising, and reducing stress–leading up to, and lasting throughout, the holidays.

We asked some of our members who are participating in the Maintain, Don’t Gain campaign what they do to take care of themselves and stay healthy during the fun but hectic holiday season. Here are a few of our favorite responses:

“Make sure to sleep well and plan (as much as possible) my meals, gift budget and shopping trips and dates.” – Maria

“Take walks in the park.” – Kathy

“Drink plenty of water and exercise daily!” – Pam

“Do not use elevators or escalators, always take the stairs!”  – Mark

“Stick to my diet by logging all my meals in My Fitness Pal, drink more water, and walk 30 minutes every day! To date I have lost 11 pounds!” – Donna

“I enjoy visiting the elderly and helping them with their shopping and cooking and listening to them talk about how they celebrated when they were growing up (this is more relaxing than anything in the world).” – Angie

“I continue to exercise and walk. I work my shopping, decorating, and attending social functions around my exercise routine. I also try to get a good night sleep so I am not exhausted. When I am tired I tend to make bad (easy/quick) food choices.” –Terry

“Pack my lunches and snacks during the work week so I am less tempted by the treats others bring in.” – Tricia

“During the holiday season, I make a specific effort not to over-schedule myself or my family.  We sit down as a family and plan what we are going to do and what we can pass on.  It makes a huge difference in how relaxed we are, and the holidays are now almost stress-free!” – Susan
