Indoor activities to keep you moving

Now that we are following stay-at-home orders, your usual go-to form of exercise might be unavailable. But that’s no excuse for not following through on your fitness goals.  Check out these easy ways to stay fit from the comfort and safety of your home.

Create a home gym. Streamline your efforts by setting up a space at home to work out. If space is available, you can purchase a few key pieces of equipment, weights and resistance bands, or use household items like soup cans, water bottles, etc.

Workout with a video or app.  Due to the pandemic, there are many available for little to no cost. We included a list here.

Belong to a gym? Many gyms are streaming workouts and classes for their members. Contact your gym to see what is available.

Try quick cardio moves and body weight exercises.  You can do crunches, jumping jacks, and more all in the comfort of your own living room. Check out our WOWs for inspiration.

Jump rope.  It’s a fun way to get your whole body movin’. This is best attempted in your garage or some other room with a higher ceiling and no breakable objects nearby.

Walk or pace. On a conference call? Is the TV calling? Want to scroll through your Facebook feed? Why not walk in place while you do those activities? It’s a low-impact way to fit in some activity.

Do some chores to keep moving! Try catching up on your backlog of laundry; going through cluttered areas of the house to determine what to keep, trash, or donate; or giving your bathroom a deep cleaning.

Try some yoga. Not only will it keep you moving, but can also reduce stress and improve focus. Click here for a quick sequence you can easily do while working.

Get your kids involved. Your children can also benefit from physical activity! Here are some fun ideas to exercise while simultaneously playing with them.
