Health Advocate, Inc., the nation’s leading healthcare advocacy and assistance company and a subsidiary of West Corporation, has received a Merit award from the Web Health AwardsSM | MOBILE for its Health Cost Estimator mobile app. Health Cost Estimator (HCE) is a pricing transparency tool developed to provide Health Advocate members with the information and resources necessary to identify the most cost-effective healthcare services.
“We are honored that the HCE mobile app was recognized by the Web Health Awards,” said Martin Rosen, Executive Vice President, Health Advocate Marketing. “With the continued rise of consumer-driven health plans, more responsibility to manage health is placed on the consumer; therefore, it’s more important than ever to make healthcare pricing information accessible to everyone.”
While consumers are increasingly charged with making decisions about who and where to turn for their healthcare, a lack of price transparency, along with insufficient or inaccurate information about healthcare costs, can cause them to pay too much for care or forgo treatment altogether.
To address this issue, HCE helps Health Advocate members make better decisions and maximize their benefits by providing a comparative snapshot of what a procedure or test will cost from a health provider. The app breaks out costs for each component of a service or procedure (e.g., surgical, facility) and shows how hospitals rate in quality.
The HCE mobile app is available via the App Store for Apple devices or Google Play for Android devices. Additionally, members can access HCE through the Health Advocate member website or call their Personal Health Advocate for additional assistance utilizing the tool.
The Web Health AwardsSM recognizes the nation’s best digital health resources. The competition, organized by the Health Information Resource CenterSM, is held twice each year and features 52 entry categories. The judges, a panel of 32 experts in digital health media, selected winners from entries including blogs, e-newsletters, mobile applications, mobile websites, social media, videos and websites.
