Better habits, better balance

When work, home, and personal responsibilities are all competing for your attention, finding balance can feel easier said than done. While there may always be busy days and unexpected demands, a few intentional habits can help you protect your time, manage stress, and make more room for the things that matter to you.

When the demands—and the stress—of work, home, and personal responsibilities start to pile up, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Changing a few habits can help you prioritize balance so you can be your best self at home, at work, and everywhere in between.

Creating better work-life balance starts with:

Setting clear boundaries

Keep work at work by sticking to your specific work hours. On most days, avoid taking calls or checking email after your work hours are over.

Making “appointments” for what’s important to you

In your calendar, schedule time for breaks, exercise, hobbies, and connecting with loved ones.

Becoming comfortable with saying no

Be honest with yourself about how much you can truly take on.

Once you’re regularly doing those habits, maintain your balance by:

  • Building downtime into each day so you can recharge
  • “Unplugging” from devices and screens after work when you don’t need to be connected
  • Asking for help when you need it
  • Talking to people you trust if you’re feeling stressed
  • Doing stress-reducing activities like meditating or journaling
  • Fueling your body by staying active and eating nutritious food
  • Getting proper rest—for most people, that’s 7–8 hours of sleep each night

Work-life balance won’t look the same for everyone, and it probably won’t look the same every day. What matters is creating enough space in your life for work, responsibilities, relationships, rest, and the things you enjoy—without feeling like one area always has to come at the expense of another.
