Keep your eyes healthy

Your eyes work nonstop while reading, scrolling, driving, and taking in the world around you. Taking care of your eye health helps protect your vision and supports overall wellness at every age.

How to support your eye health and vision

  • Get regular eye exams. Typically every 1–2 years for most adults. This helps detect problems early before they affect your vision.
  • Protect your eyes from the sun. When outside, wear sunglasses with UV protection—even on cloudy days.
  • Reduce eye strain from screens. Lower your screen brightness in dim lighting, turn on your device’s built-in blue-light setting, and blink often.
  • Eat foods that support eye health. Leafy greens, colorful fruits, eggs, and fish help protect your eyes and support good vision over time.
  • Healthy habits protect your eyes. Stay active, manage your blood sugar and blood pressure, and avoid tobacco.
  • Get enough sleep. Your eyes recover while you rest.

Don’t ignore these warning signs

See an eye care professional right away if you notice:

  • Sudden blurry or double vision
  • An increase in dark spots
  • Flashes of light
  • A dark area blocking part of your vision
  • Severe eye pain or pressure
  • Persistent redness or irritation
