As part of Health Advocate’s Commit to Quit Tobacco campaign, many of our members are aiming to stop smoking or chewing tobacco. Quitting tobacco is difficult, but one way to help yourself succeed is by keeping yourself distracted by other things when you’re craving a smoke or chew.
We asked some of our members who are participating in the Commit to Quit Tobacco campaign what healthy alternative they’ve been reaching for when a tobacco craving hits. Here are a few of our favorite responses:
“I have been snacking on veggies when I find myself craving a cigarette.” –Jessica
When a craving hits me, I jump rope! I like it because I am doing two things at once that are healthy for my heart: not smoking, and jumping rope!” –Whitley
“Celery sticks!” – Julia
“There have been several times when I’ve been stressed and said to myself, ‘This is why I would have smoked, but this is not why I will smoke today.’” –Cheryl
